iMic is built and operated by Forthright Tech LLC(“Forthright Tech,” “we,” “us”), the data controller responsible for the information described here. iMic turns an iPhone into a wireless microphone and programmable shortcut remote for your Mac.

The short version: your microphone audio streams directly between your iPhone and your Mac over your local Wi-Fi or a peer-to-peer connection. It is not routed through our servers, there is no cloud relay, and audio is not recorded or stored by default. We collect as little as possible, and we do not sell your data.

How your audio is handled

When you use iMic, the iPhone app captures microphone audio and streams it to the Mac app over your local network. The audio and control channels are encrypted, and the stream stays on your local network — it never leaves it and is never uploaded to us or any third party.

  • Audio travels directly between your paired iPhone and Mac (local Wi-Fi or peer-to-peer). There is no cloud relay.
  • Audio and control streams are encrypted while in transit between your devices.
  • iMic does not record, store, or transmit your audio to us. Audio exists only for as long as it is being streamed, then it is gone.

Device pairing

To connect your devices, the Mac shows a one-time 6-digit code that you enter on your iPhone. After that, the devices trust each other using pinned identity keys, so they can reconnect automatically without re-entering the code.

The pairing information and device identity keys are stored locally on your own iPhone and Mac. They are not shared with us and are not used to identify you personally.

Permissions the apps request

iMic only asks for the permissions it needs to do its job, and each one is used solely for the feature it enables:

  • Microphone (iPhone) — to capture the audio you stream to your Mac.
  • Local network (iPhone & Mac) — to discover and connect your devices to each other over your Wi-Fi. This access is used only to find and reach your paired device.
  • Accessibility (Mac) — requested only if you use the programmable shortcut remote, so iMic can run the keyboard shortcuts you configure. The microphone works without granting it.

Granting these permissions does not send any data to us. You can review or revoke them at any time in iOS and macOS system settings.

Waitlist & email signup

On this website you can join an early-access waitlist by providing your email address. If you choose to submit it, we use that email for a single purpose: to notify you about iMic’s availability and related early-access updates.

  • Providing your email is voluntary — the rest of the site works without it.
  • We use your email only to contact you about iMic. We do not sell, rent, or trade it, and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.
  • We keep waitlist emails only for as long as needed to reach you about the launch. You can ask us to remove your email at any time (see Contact below).

What we do and don’t collect

We designed iMic to run without accounts and without harvesting your data.

We do not collect:

  • Your microphone audio or recordings.
  • The contents of your streams or the shortcuts you run.
  • An account profile — iMic does not require you to sign up.

The only personal data we may hold is:

  • The email address you voluntarily submit to the waitlist (see above).
  • Aggregated, anonymized website usage statistics (see Analytics).

Website analytics

This marketing website uses Vercel Analytics to understand traffic in aggregate — for example, how many people visit a page. It is privacy-friendly: it does not use cookies, does not build advertising profiles, and does not track you across other websites. The data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you.

The iMic iPhone and Mac apps do not include this website analytics.

Third-party services

We keep third parties to a minimum. The ones we rely on for this website are:

  • Vercel — hosts this website and provides the privacy-friendly analytics described above.

Your audio never passes through any of these services — it stays on your local network between your own devices.

Data retention

Audio is never stored, so there is nothing to retain. Pairing keys stay on your devices until you unpair or uninstall. Waitlist emails are kept only for as long as needed to notify you about availability, and are deleted on request or once they are no longer needed. Aggregated website analytics are retained in anonymized form only.

Children’s privacy

iMic is a general-audience productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us their email, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as iMic evolves. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
